Juneteeth at Levine Museum

*The event has already taken place on this date: Wed, 06/19/2019
The annual celebration of Juneteenth on or around June 19th is one of the most important and storied historical occasions in the African American community across the nation.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

It marks the moment in 1865 that enslaved people received word of the abolishment of slavery at the close of the Civil War. Traditionally, the event is marked with public festivities honoring the accomplishments of leaders, a variety of performances, featuring organizations, businesses, and foods drawn from the local community.

As a complement to the Charlotte community’s traditional celebration of Juneteenth and in partnership with House of Africa, Levine Museum will host a free, educational family day, all with the goal of underscoring the history since the abolishment of slavery and the ongoing advancement of civil rights for African Americans.
