April 8, 2024: What will the eclipse look like from my city?
What will the Great North American Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024 eclipse look like from my city? Dan McGlaun from Eclipse2024.org has created a series of animations that show the moon's path over the sun as seen from different ground locations. As you'll see, 99% is NOT totality!
The shadow of Great North American Solar Eclipse enters Mexico at 9:43am PDT and reaches totality there at 10:51am PDT. The shadow then proceeds through parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, as well as the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. All of North America will experience at least a partial eclipse. The regions below are divided by time zone, west to east. Major cities in totality in 2024 include Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Little Rock, Indianapolis, Toledo, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Rochester, Syracuse,and Burlington.
Need glasses for the eclipse? Make sure you get them from a distributor approved by the American Astronomical Society (Eclipse2024.org is an approved distributor!). The only time you can take your glasses off when viewing an eclipse is during the few minutes of totality, when the moon totally blocks the sun in the regions in its shadow. You always need approved eyewear to view a partial eclipse! So regardless of whether you're in totality or outside the path, get your hands on eclipse glasses so you can make the most of the experience!
